What is PRK?

May 30, 2019

TLC of Coral Gables Is Your Miami Eye Doctor for Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

Are You in need of laser surgery in or around Coral Gables? We serve Miami and the surrounding areas with quality optometry services and laser procedures, including PRK. If you are in need of a highly qualified local eye doctor, look no further than TLC of Coral Gables.

What Is PRK?

PRK stands for Photorefractive Keratectomy. It is a type of laser surgery that treats vision issues caused by refractive errors in the eye. Our ophthalmologist will use a laser to change the shape of our cornea to improve the way light is focused by your eye. PRK is a good alternative for people who cannot have LASIK due to dry eyes, thin corneas, or a highly active lifestyle that may damage the work done by a LASIK procedure.

Conditions treated by PRK include nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Many patients do not need their glasses or contacts at all after this treatment. Some patients still do, but much less often.

If you are considering PRK, discuss your options with our eye doctor. You must be at least 18 years old, have no change in your eye prescription for 12 months, your eye problem must be one that can be treated with this procedure and you need to be in general good health.

Contact Us for Eye Exam and Consultation Today

Call us at TLC of Coral Gables to schedule a consultation to see if the PRK procedure is right for you. We improve the vision of patients daily and often negate their need for contacts or glasses. We are your Miami and Coral Gables eye doctors for quality laser procedures and complete eye care. Call today, (305) 461-0003!
